Hi! My name is Samantha Eddmeiri, but you can call me Sam. I’m 18 years old, a freshman, and I really like soft pretzels and Shakespeare.

BACKGROUND:
My life story isn’t anything magnificent, but it’s mine and that’s good enough. I was born in Omaha, Nebraska to a hardworking immigrant named Yaser and his beautiful wife Loretta Eddmeiri, along with my three siblings. (Yes, I’m a quadruplet, yes I do enjoy it, and no we can’t read each other’s thoughts… I wish.) I have three dogs, two huskies named Maya and Meeko, and a shih poo named Quil. I’d lived in Lincoln, NE for nearly 16 years, before I moved to Chicago, IL for college. Although Chicago is a major change of setting and did come with some initial culture shock, I’m extremely excited to start my journey at my dream school as a Loyola student.
Currently, I’m attending Loyola University Chicago with an undecided major/minor, but heading in the direction of Advertising and Public Relations, hoping to one day do some kind of design for a mass media company. I plan on graduating in 2018, and then attempting to find a job in a city, preferably Chicago, Los Angeles, or Seattle.
WHY LOYOLA CHICAGO?:
I knew that I wanted to leave Nebraska for a while. The feild that I want to go into does not currently have much of a market where I’m from, and although I’m hoping it will change, I needed to find a better place to learn and educate myself on the topic. I discovered Loyola at the end of my junior year, when the receptionist for the counseling center at my high school handed me a packet with a list of out of state colleges in it. I instantly fell in love with the idea of Chicago, (when my father first came to the good old USA, he started his journey in Chicago. I grew up hearing stories of the memories and fun that he’d had in the Windy City and I wanted to create my own) and took whatever chance that I could to try and convince my dad to let me come visit campus. He was hesitant (losing his little girl and to a big city and whatnot) but he soon got over his fear after several reassurances of how safe Loyola’s campus actually was.
I applied, was accepted, and that was the start of what is (so far) the greatest adventure of my life.
FUN FACTS:

  • I really like Shakespeare. I think the language is beautiful, and the way that he makes fun of common people and royalty figures is highly entertaining.
  • I also am a huge fan of puns. Especially really bad ones that no one else thinks are funny.
  • In addition to being a quadruplet, I have a half sister whom I affectionately refer to as “toothless,” like the dragon from “How to Train Your Dragon.”
  • I really enjoy Christmas, even though I was born and raised a Muslim.
  • I’m half Palestinian and have been to Jerusalem twice, and am in the process of relearning Arabic.
  • Traveling is my passion and I hope to explore the world more than I already have at some point in the next four years.
