Ringing in the Resolutions

Ringing in the Resolutions

I know that usually resolutions don’t really last the entire year for most people. In my experience I’ve tried to give up soda, get healthier, try to lower the stress in my life, and even tried to learn a language in a year.

Some of those didn’t make it past January 5th.

However, I still believe that sometimes resolutions can be helpful and constructive. This year I’ve decided to rationalize my resolutions and set realistic ones. Hopefully they’ll work, but we’ll see!

1. Make the Dean’s List this Spring Semester.
To make the Dean’s List, you must get a 3.5 or higher for your GPA. While doable, it’s not super easy, so I’m going to try to push myself a little harder.

2. Eat healthier.
While generally I’m opposed to those “Lose x amount of pounds this year” resolutions, I would just like to eat healthier and take advantage of the healthy options that Loyola has to offer. While there are many delicious restaurants right off campus, it’s cheaper and better for me to snack on an apple instead of Bop-n-Grill fries.

3. Make at least 3 new friends.
College is all about new starts and beginnings, and I just want to meet as many people and establish as many friendships as I possibly can. It’s always nice to have someone to explore Chicago with, even if it’s just walking to the IC together to do homework.

4. Work out at least 3 times a week.
I knew I couldn’t stay away from the gym the moment I set foot in it. Let me make this clear: I do NOT enjoy working out. I would much rather be in my dorm room, eating popcorn and watching Netflix. I made the mistake (if you can call it that) of touring Halas the day I moved into Loyola, and once I saw how nice it was, I knew it would be silly to NOT take advantage of the brand new facilities. I’m going to be taking 18 credit hours this next semester and hopefully working, but I still want to have time to go to the gym and give myself a nice hour long study break.

5. Be happier.
This sound cliche and stupid, because honestly my life isn’t bad or depressing right now, but this is more of a step back and smell the roses kind of deal. (Cliches on cliches over here, sorry about that.) Sometimes school and life is very overwhelming, and I forget that I am fortunate enough to go to my dream school and live in a beautiful city. This upcoming year I’m going to try to appreciate that more, because to be quite honest, Loyola provides a very comfortable living environment for me in a place where that could be very hard to find.

So here’s to a happier, healthier, and fuller 2015. Let’s try and make it better than the prior and appreciate all that we have. I hope all your resolutions go extremely well for you, and that you make it more than 5 days with them! Happy 2015!
