Future teachers club members from Loyola University Chicago and Swift School recently hosted a family event at Swift to show parents some summer activities to do with their children to improve math and reading levels.
Shelley Nizynski Reese, (MED ’05) teacher at McCracken Middle School in Skokie, IL, was recently recognized by the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center as their Power of One Award 2012 recipient for her efforts in putting together a benefit concert at McCracken to support A Better Life for Kids.

Loyola was awarded a Presidential Award (from the U.S. President) for community service, service-learning and civic engagement. The School of Education’s Target New Transitions (TNT) program and Math Tutoring program were two of the three community programs highlighted as “Promise Neighborhood Award Recipients.”

This weekend 80 volunteers (teachers, staff, college students) from the Illinois Education Association (IEA) helped paint and renovate a school in Danville, IL. There were 11 students from Loyola University Chicago in attendance. Loyola had the most students out of any school in Illinois attend!!

Our Indonesian graduate students are selling paintings and other Indonesian items (batik t-shirts, puppets, playing cards, key rings, etc.). The money raised will be sent to their University back home to help existing programs such as providing food, shelter, and trauma healing for children.
