No Excuses University
Juan Bottia, BSED ’09, is currently teaching 4th grade at Orchard Place Elementary, Des Plaines, Illinois. Each year, Juan and his students participate in a program called No Excuses University. This program is to raise awareness, provide resources, and inspire students to continue their education by seeking out and successfully enrolling and completing a college program.Juan’s classroom has been sponsored by Loyola University Chicago. Every Friday, the students and teachers will wear their sponsored University t-shirts to promote, both in education and in practice, the concept and visualization of future goals. Bottia said, “No one in my classroom has a family member that attended a higher learning institution. No Excuses University is truly changing our school culture.”
