Opportunities at Loyola: Part 2

Opportunities at Loyola: Part 2

As part of my series,  I wanted to share with you another cool event that I was able to attend this past week! Last time, I told you about the fabulous leadership conference that I was able to attend — this time I want to tell you a little about the Maroon and Gold Lecture Series.

Every year The Maroon and Gold society (a group of seniors who exemplify leadership, academic excellence, and service to others across the University) helps plan a lecture series. This year, the speaker was Ben Jealous. Ben is a Rhodes Scholar, the person to ever lead NAACP, and also a well known civil rights leader.

Wash.DC

As part of the lecture series, Ben Jealous came to speak to Loyola students on Wednesday evening. During his lecture, Ben spoke about his journey and the experiences he’s had in civil rights battles from a young age. Not only did he share his first hand experience, but he also inspired us as college students to make a change in the world. He shared that the first step in making change in the world requires us to simply choose one issue that we believe strongly in, and work at it until we achieve the goal we are aiming for. It’s honestly as simple as that. It’s easy to get fired up about many different causes, but if we can pick just one and put all of our efforts to that cause, we’re already making a change. Hearing Ben speak and share this one tip left me inspired and fired up to make change.

There are so many cool events that happen on campus, but the Maroon and Gold Lecture Series is one of my favorites. Ever year I leaving learned something new, or inspired a little more.

I hope you enjoyed reading about this experience!

Until next time,

Foram
