The potential that artificial intelligence has today is impressive: it can answer questions efficiently and accurately, which can have a very positive impact on different aspects of our lives. But to what extent should we use them?Β Β
In education, AI, such as ChatGPT, is a valuable tool for supplying quick answers to complex questions. Students and teachers can take advantage of its ability to ask for explanations to topics, search for information and get clear and concise answers.Β Β
However, Jesuit education focuses on the integral development of students, not only in their academic knowledge, but also in their moral and spiritual formation. In this sense, the use of artificial intelligence at a university like Loyola Chicago must be carefully considered to ensure that it does not limit students’ creativity and critical thinking, skills that are fundamental to their holistic development. Rather than replacing these skills, AI should be used as a complementary tool to enhance them.Β
In research and data analysis, the potential of artificial intelligence is enormous, as it can process large amounts of information, search for patterns and provide useful information for business decision making. However, it is important to carefully consider the impact of AI on the jobs of the people involved. As a Business Administration student, I think we should be committed to training ethical leaders committed to social justice and the transformation of society. In this sense, the use of artificial intelligence in business decision making must be carefully considered to ensure that it does not perpetuate injustice or discrimination. It is important to use AI in a balanced and conscious manner so as not to end up limiting the human condition and to ensure that the value of justice is respected.Β
My advice is simply to make intelligent use of technology, as it is tempting because we always carry it in our pockets and know that it is available to us. Many people today are hooked on these tools. I am not suggesting not to use them at all and leaving them aside and going against the modern world. Rather, my proposal is that you learn to rely on these tools in an intelligent way, in a way that positively affects your life, as over-reliance on them can limit your creativity and critical thinking. Creativity is an important skill that should be fostered and developed in humans, and AI should not be used as a replacement but as a complementary tool to enhance these skills.Β
