October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Posted on: October 15th, 2025 by Christina Truszkowski

Every October, organizations across the country take part in National Cybersecurity Awareness Month to help emphasize the importance of protecting online information. As technology continues to play a bigger role in our daily lives, it is more important than ever to know how to stay safe on the internet.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month encourages everyone to take small but important actions to protect their digital lives. This includes things like keeping software up to date, avoiding suspicious links, using strong and unique passwords, and learning how to recognize phishing scams. These simple steps can make a big difference in preventing identity theft, compromised accounts, and other online threats.

Here at Loyola, our Information Security team is celebrating the month by hosting a series of events to promote safe online habits and answer questions about cybersecurity. Throughout October, we will be setting up tables at different campus locations to share information and hand out merchandise. Our goal is to make cybersecurity easy to understand and show how small changes can help protect you and the Loyola community.

Event Schedule:

  • Wednesday, October 8 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM – Schreiber Center, WTC Campus
  • Tuesday, October 14 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM – SSOM Atrium, HSC Campus
  • Tuesday, October 21 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM – Damen Center, LSC Campus

We will wrap up the month with a student-run Cyber Awareness Seminar on Thursday, October 23, from 4:00 – 5:00 PM in Damen 216. The seminar will include short student presentations on how to stay safe online. There will also be free doughnuts provided for attendees.

All events are open to the entire Loyola community, including students, faculty, and staff.  Whether you are new to cybersecurity or just want a quick refresher, these events are a great way to learn how to protect yourself and your information.

We hope to see you at one of our events this month. By staying informed and making smart choices online, we can all help keep Loyola’s digital environment secure.
