Over the past week or so, the UISO has noticed an increased amount of these phishing e-mails, stating that the receiver’s password is about to expire, and they need to validate his or her e-mail account. These e-mails are coming from seemingly random senders, and not from within Loyola’s network, as you can see by their e-mail address in the message.
Please remember to never give out your password and to always double-check the sender to make sure it is who you think it may be. Loyola, even the Help Desk, will never ask for your password. If an attacker were to retrieve your password, they have the key to all of your Loyola information, including your e-mail, Sakai, Locus, and any other Loyola website or application, and could have access to any other account that shares that same password.
If you receive a suspicious email, please forward it to datasecurity@luc.edu. If you fall victim to one of these attacks, change your password immediately, and contact the Help Desk to make sure your machine is not infected.
