Beware: Increase in Malicious Emails – Updated!

Posted on: November 12th, 2013 by Mykael Baig

Loyola community,

The UISO has been informed of several new incoming emails with malicious attachments. Below is a summary of the information we have compiled:

Samples of email subjects:

  • FW: Duplicate Payment
  • International Wire Transfer file Not Processed
  • Important – New Outlook Settings
  • To all Employees – Confidential Message

Samples of email attachments:

  • invoice.zip
  • Outlook.zip
  • WireTransferError.zip
  • To All Employees 2013.zip

If you receive email containing the above subject lines or attachments, please review them carefully. The files contained within the zip folders are known to install a virus and could compromise your computer.

Remember, you should never open any attachments or click any links in an email that was received from an unknown source. As always, if you are unsure if an email is safe, please forward it to datasecurity@luc.edu for a second opinion. We are always here to help.
