A Look inside LUMA: Indonesian Puppetry

Do you ever think back on times as a kid when you would play with puppets? Maybe you’ve even set up a stage for your dog puppet to fight or play with your cat puppet (depends on the relationship you thought they should have). Well, LUMA has curated an entire exhibit based on Puppetry. What’s on display is far from typical child hand or finger puppets. Loyola’s Anthropology Department has brought Wayang Kulit (shadow puppets) and Wayang Golèk (rod puppets) from Indonesia. Much of their stories are drawn from mythologies of diverse cultural traditions in Southeast Asia.

Check out our pictures of the finished products from attending the workshop as well as the authentic puppets as well!

The exhibit is running at LUMA from now all the way until summer, June 3rd. LUMA is free for all Loyola students and always has something fascinating to see! Tweet at us photos or info @RBBlogtweets or comment below! We’d love to hear from you.
