Congratulations to Social Work Professor Amy Krings, along with her coauthors Tania Schusler and Melissa Hernández, who won the Marie Weil Award for the Article of the Year in the Journal of Community Practice. Their article – Integrating Youth Participation and Ecosocial Work: New Possibilities to Advance Environmental and Social Justice — was chosen because of its attention to marginalized voices, rigor and clarity, and its promotion of social justice. Using a community-based research design, the authors demonstrated how youth from Chicago are advocating for equity in the policies, institutions, and decisions that impact them. The awards committee stated:
“We believe that your work demonstrates some of the best scholarship in macro practice.
In their selection of your article, committee reviewers noted
the clarity of your argument, attention to marginalized voices, rigor of your methodology and
promotion of justice to be of critical importance”.
