Introductions: Amie Bauer

Hi! My name is Amie Bauer and I am a brand new 1L at Loyola School of Law. I am here to invite you on the journey of my first year. I will speak to my experiences in the classroom and at Loyola events and share what I am up to in Chi-town. Together, we will explore, stress, study, dance, eat, and learn. Read on to find out a little bit about me and get a sense of what to expect from this year and my blog!

Jenny, Donny & Me

Jenna, Donny & Me

Where I am from
I have lived in the same Lake Villa home (northern Chicago suburb) since I was one year old. Donny and Jenna are my two younger siblings and a constant source of laughs, criticism, love, and support. K-12th grade I attended Catholic schools where I played basketball, made life-long friends, and developed a passion for social justice.

Where I went to school
I graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2012 with a degree in Women’s Studies. I love exploring the complexities of identities (gender, sexuality, race, religion) and working to establish justice and equality. My research focused on women within Islam and empowering interpretations of the Quran and Hadith.

What I have been up to
After I graduated, I boarded a plane, its destination: Chittagong, Bangladesh. There, I had the privilege to teach at Asian University for Women—an all women’s American liberal arts college with students from 12 different counties. I worked as a TA, tutored in writing, and coached basketball. It was one of the most challenging and inspiring experiences.

What else?
Well, I love to eat and try new foods. Quality and quantity are top priorities. I love to travel and the best part is trying all the different dishes! I will sample almost everything and bring on the spice! I do unfortunately have to deny the dairy, due to my lactose intolerance. Though, I have been known to indulge occasionally in some ice cream. Weak, I know but I got the sweet tooth from my grandma.

My approach to life
I live and act with passion and enthusiasm. Admittedly, I get a little fiery sometimes but that’s what keeps me moving. I have been gifted with a beautiful life and I try to bring that light to others. I view my mistakes as adventures and opportunities for growth. Yes, things get messy sometimes and my mom insists I have to learn everything the hard way. But life is only stressful if I let it be. The world’s problems sometimes become overwhelming and I can get discouraged. Though when the world feels too heavy and dark, I think of a dear friend’s words: “We just have to keep loving. We just have to.”

Now you know a little bit about me. I am very excited to begin law school and look forward to sharing it with you. So come with me as I navigate classes, race to catch a train, and eat, eat, and EAT! Our adventures begin.
