Student Spotlight: Mary Kennelly, Health Law

Where is Your Campus Home?

“Action-packed” is the only way to describe law school.  In the midst of all the frenetic activity, voluminous casebooks, and lengthy term papers, it is good to have a place to call home.  For students with an interest in health law, the Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy is exactly that place.  Led by Professor Larry Singer, the health law faculty members take a personal interest in their students.  They are accessible and committed to building relationships beyond the classroom.  For any student who asks, these professors and administrators give their time freely. They offer invaluable advice and help students find their own path to meet their personal and professional goals.  I know this because they have done so for me.

This strong sense of community extends beyond the student-teacher relationship.  Through student-directed programming such as the Health Law Society’s “Big Sibling, Little Sibling” initiative and the Annals of Health Law’s publications and symposia, students get the opportunity to work closely with their classmates, forging bonds of friendship that endure past graduation.  On campus, nothing beats the friends I made in my first year health law legal writing section, or the fun we have working together at the Health Justice Project.  Law school can be tumultuous time.  Throughout my journey here, I have drawn strength from having a second home on campus, and I am glad to know that the Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy will be there for the students who come after me.
