In attendance,\u00a0practitioners and researchers from IL, Florida, Utah, and Missouri. Loyola&#8217;s own PhD students, also presented their work on school social work as part of the 3-day event.<\/p>\n<p>Loyola Professor School of Social Work and SMHAPP certificate Director,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.luc.edu\/socialwork\/aboutus\/facultystaff\/kellymichael.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Michael Kelly PhD<\/a>,\u00a0kicked off the event and provided an overview of this year\u2019s theme &#8220;<strong>Together We Can Do This: School Social Workers Changing Their Schools.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-413 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/files\/2018\/08\/13th-Annual-FSPP-Summer-Institute-300x182.jpg\" alt=\"Loyola FSPP Summer Institute 2018\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/13th-Annual-FSPP-Summer-Institute-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/13th-Annual-FSPP-Summer-Institute.jpg 660w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Student Presentations<\/h2>\n<p>Loyola Doctoral Student and SSW Emily Shayman presented parts of her dissertation, \u201cThe \u2018School Standpoint\u2019: Understanding effects of personal experiences within school social work practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael Flood and Megan Tracy, SSW and Loyola SMHAPP students shared their SMHAPP projects addressing their work on using data to develop SSW Criteria for services in their schools, along with PLC member and Loyola PhD Student Adriane Van Zwoll, LCSW, Social Worker at Proviso East School-Based Health Center.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-419 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/files\/2018\/08\/Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018.jpg\" alt=\"Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018.jpg 420w, https:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Group Activities<\/h2>\n<p>Professor Michael Kelly introduced the Research\/Practice Hack-a-Thon on developing RSASD (Referral, Screening, Assessment, and Service Delivery) criteria for SSW services. The &#8220;Hack-a-Thon&#8221; incorporated a group phase, where attendees discussed the service criteria.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-420 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/files\/2018\/08\/Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018-1.jpg\" alt=\"Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018-1.jpg 420w, https:\/\/blogs.luc.edu\/socialwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Loyola_Summer_Institute_2018-1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Keynote Speakers<\/h2>\n<p>Keynote presenters had 2 sessions to describe cutting-edge tools to help school social workers deliver brief treatment to students and use data effectively to mobilize school resources, this part was taught by school mental health researchers from Washington State and Florida.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Efficacy of a Brief Intervention Strategy for School-Based Mental Health Clinicians.\u00a0By \u00a0Dr. Elizabeth McCauley, Acting Director University of Washington Child Psychiatry, Founding Member of the SMART Center, and Developer of the BRISC (Brief Intervention for School Clinicians) &amp; Dr. Kristy Ludwig, Clinical Psychologist and BRISC Trainer, Seattle, WA<\/li>\n<li>Fostering a Culture of Evidence: Engaging Stakeholders in Making Evidence Informed Decisions. By Dr. Robert Lucio, Associate Professor of Social Work at St. Leo University, Tampa\/St. Petersburg Area. Dr. Lucio, a former school social worker, was formerly the Director of Academic Assessment at St. Leo before leaving that position to join the Social Work Program on their faculty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>International and Nationwide Participants<\/h2>\n<p>Among the attendees, an Azerbaijan delegation visited to get insights on social work in schools and get access to this knowledge to benefit their country. As well as professionals and educators from different universities and institutions such as Dominican University School of Social Work Professor Leticia Villarreal Sosa; SchoolSocialWork.net author and Loyola University Chicago alumnus, Marjorie Metcalf, presented her work on Tier 1 teacher consultation.
