Adult Degree Completion

The School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) at Loyola houses a multitude of learning opportunities. We offer certificates and degrees in Allied Health, continuing education for professionals, a certificate and training for paralegals, and fantastic programming through our Women’s Leadership program and conference. SCPS is also the home of Loyola’s fantastic evening adult degree completion program – the BA in Managerial Arts and Leadership.

The BA in Managerial Arts and Leadership (or BA in MAL as it’s sometimes referred to) is a fantastic way for working professionals to complete their undergraduate degree while still allowing them to continue working full time. Many students ask if the program is accellerated – a term that can mean different things to different people. While the program takes 4 years to complete, the format is accelerated in that courses are offered in an 8 week format. This allows students to focus on just 2 courses per term, rather than needing to juggled 4-5 courses over a semester. Adult students tend to perform better academically in this shortened, 8 week format. We in SCPS understand the needs of adult students which is why our program is so succesful in getting them to graduation!

It is extremely important for prospective students to find a program that will be conveinent for them to attend. Adult students are pulled in so many different directions – work, family, friends, community involvement – adding school in there can be a bit daunting. All BA in MAL classes, with exeption to the minor concentrations in Integrated Marketing Communications and Social Services and Non-profit Management, are scheduled in the evenings, 6-10 PM at our downtown Water Tower Campus.

Another important factor to consider when selecting a degree completion program is the quality of the program. I think one of the biggest strengths of the BA in MAL is that while it is built to be convenient and to cater to the needs of adult students, it is still a rigorous program administered with the high standards of Loyola University Chicago.

As always, I am here to answer questions and help guide students through the application and admission process. SCPS has a great staff full of individuals that will guide and support you through your academic journey at Loyola.
