Loyola University Chicago<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s Institute of Pastoral Studies is pleased\u00a0to announce a new concentration available to students beginning Fall 2015<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span>Master of Arts in Pastoral\u00a0<\/span>Studies degree with a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Concentration in Digital Communication.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The first program of its kind in the US, the\u00a0<\/span>Concentration in Digital Communication combines courses from Loyola’s IPS and its\u00a0School of Communication. As the contemporary world \u2013 and with it, today<\/span>\u2019s Church \u2013\u00a0<\/span>is ever more driven and influenced by content delivered through digital platforms and social media, it is critical that pastoral leaders be skilled in the use of the newest tools for effective evangelization and outreach.<\/span><\/div>\n

This degree concentration will allow students to hone their communication skills and learn best practices for using digital media in the dissemination of parish\/congregation\/diocese news, events, and the message of the Gospel in order to reach a wider audience than is possible through, but doesn’t exclude,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>legacy<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0print and broadcast media.<\/span><\/p>\n

On\u00a0<\/span>February 10, 2015,<\/b><\/span>\u00a0IPS will host\u00a0a launch event featuring a panel discussion\u00a0to introduce and celebrate this new concentration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After opening remarks from<\/span>\u00a0Archbishop Blase Cupich<\/b><\/span>\u00a0(tentatively scheduled), the event will be moderated by\u00a0<\/span>Don Wycliff<\/b><\/span>, distinguished journalist in residence at Loyola University Chicago. Wycliff\u00a0was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in editorial writing in 1996, has been inducted into the Chicago Journalism Hall of Fame and received a lifetime achievement award from the Chicago Journalists Association.\u00a0He was also a\u00a0long time editor for the\u00a0<\/span>Chicago Tribune<\/i><\/span>\u00a0and is a nationally recognized expert on ethics.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
