These five skills are also essential to succeeding as professors. They are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a class=\"intLink\" title=\"Link to Communication\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/jobs-and-professional-development\/career-diversity-for-historians\/career-diversity-resources\/five-skills\/communication\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COMMUNICATION<\/a><\/strong>, in a variety of media and to a variety of audiences<\/li>\n<li><strong><a class=\"intLink\" title=\"Collaboration\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/jobs-and-professional-development\/career-diversity-for-historians\/career-diversity-resources\/five-skills\/collaboration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COLLABORATION<\/a><\/strong>, especially with people who might not share your worldview<\/li>\n<li><strong><a class=\"intLink\" title=\"Link to Quantitative Literacy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/jobs-and-professional-development\/career-diversity-for-historians\/career-diversity-resources\/five-skills\/quantitative-literacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">QUANTITATIVE LITERACY<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0a basic ability to understand and communicate information presented in quantitative form, i.e., understanding that numbers tell a story the same way words, images, and artifacts do<\/li>\n<li><strong><a class=\"intLink\" title=\"Intellectual Self-Confidence\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/jobs-and-professional-development\/career-diversity-for-historians\/career-diversity-resources\/five-skills\/intellectual-self-confidence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">INTELLECTUAL SELF-CONFIDENCE<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0the ability to work beyond subject matter expertise, to be nimble and imaginative in projects and plans<\/li>\n<li><strong><a class=\"intLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/jobs-and-professional-development\/career-diversity-for-historians\/career-diversity-resources\/five-skills\/digital-literacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DIGITAL LITERACY<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0a basic familiarity with digital tools and platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This guide presents an introduction to each skill\u2014adapted from posts originally published on\u00a0<em>AHA Today<\/em>\u00a0in Spring 2016\u2014as well as a list of AHA-produced resources that can help develop an understanding of that skill. The resources include blog posts,\u00a0<em>Perspectives on History<\/em>\u00a0articles, video resources, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to our blog authors for their thoughts and to Lindsey Martin, Mellon career development officer at the University of Chicago, who compiled and annotated these resources.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click on each of the five skills for more information.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">From Loyola<\/span><\/strong><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The History Graduate Program at Loyola ran, with support from the AHA&#8217;s Career Diversity Initiative, a seminar series that featured dedicated meetings for four of the five skills listed above.
