Cubs vs. White Sox: World Series Matchup a Real Possibility

Although the Final Four is looming, in Chicago there’s still much talk and anticipation about Opening Day. Check out Eric Langer’s take on the upcoming baseball season:

There is a lot of optimism running through the city of Chicago on both the north and south side. The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White sox made some big time noise in the offseason and those moves have put them in serious contender conversation.

The Sox think they found their savior at closer, signing David Robertson to a 4 year, $46 million deal as part of their very busy offseason. They also added Zach Duke, a veteran southpaw, to help sure up what was an abysmal bullpen in 2014. They were also able to land Adam LaRoche, a solid left handed power hitter, and those are not even the biggest moves. Jeff Samardzija, former Cubs ace, is now a member of the White Sox, who will bolster a very strong starting rotation. He will be slated right behind power lefty Chris Sale in the rotation.

The Cubs future is finally here, and the buzz around their young talent is legitimate. But it was the signing of ace Jon Lester, and the hiring of the mad scientist Joe Maddon, that will give the Northsiders a real shot to compete in 2015.

With all that being said, no one is really willing to talk Cubs/Sox World Series. Of course, the season has yet to even begin. But all of these positives should lead to both teams being in the playoff race in the home stretch of the regular season, and who knows, the 2015 World Series could be played exclusively in one city: Chicago.
