Job/Internship Shadow Day

Job/Internship Shadow Day

The Center for Experiential Learning in collaboration with Career Services hosted Fall Break Job/Internship Shadow Day on October 8, 2019. Loyola students were able to visit Shedd Aquarium and Choose Chicago to hear from leaders about career development.

Bridget Thornton, Manager of Volunteer Services at Shedd Aquarium and CEL Advisory Board Member hosted 15 Loyola and Arrupe students. These students were given a tour to learn about the different departments of the Shedd, and they heard from the Human Resource Manager about best tips of applying for internships and employment. Best tip of the day was “Never leave anything blank on an application.”

Another group of 10 Loyola students visited Choose Chicago, which is the premier destination marketing arm of Chicago and McCormick Place Convention Center. Students had the opportunity to hear from the organization’s Human Resources Manager, President and CEO, Chief Operating Officer, Director of Sales, Director of Communications, and Event Manager for McCormick Place Convention Center. They also toured the new Wintrust Arena, home to the Chicago Sky WNBA team. One takeaway from the visit was from the Director of Sales, who informed students to begin to network and gain internships by joining the Professional Convention Management Association Students LinkedIn page.
