JavaScript Ransomware Spreading

Posted on: January 6th, 2016 by Jim Pardonek

What is believed to be the first JavaScript-based ransomware-as-service is spreading. Because of the way it works, Called Ransom32, it is likely to be able to infect multiple operating systems including Windows Mac and Linux. It is generally spread via phishing type email and is contained in a self executing ZIP file attachment that is disguised to look like a legitimate document. The general advice is to not open any attachment that shows up unsolicited or from an unfamiliar email address. It is best if unsure about an attachment to call the sender and ask them about it.  http://www.computerworld.com/article/3018972/security/ransom32-first-of-its-kind-javascript-based-ransomware-spotted-in-the-wild.html
