Sophomore Goals

College-Quotes-19

I have learned many things from Freshman year – the do’s and the do not’s. This year, I hope to improve academically and learn more about who I am as an individual.

1. Make Connections. I am at the point where connections (to medical school, hospitals, and clinics) are essential to have. I am halfway through college and I need to plan ahead so I have a secure pathway towards my aspiration to work in the medical field.

2. Get enough sleep. Sometimes I become so consumed in my school work that I forget that getting enough sleep is necessary to “recharge” myself for the next day. Especially when it is close to midnight or past midnight, I realize that the quality of work that I do is not that good. Instead of doing a bad job of studying, I should sleep instead. I need to effectively prioritize.

3. Use my time wisely. If I am in front of a laptop, the chances of me listening to music and on Facebook and other sites are highly likely to happen. This causes a major distraction and I get work done in longer periods of time. I need to use my time wisely. If I have any free time, I should get work done, especially on-campus when I have free time. The more work I get completed, the more leisure time I get to have when I commute home.

4. Eat. Just like sleeping, I always forget how necessary it is to eat. I might be busy with schoolwork or something and simply forget to eat. Consequently, sometimes my stomach will make noises in class. To keep myself healthy and nourished, I should eat snacks (at least) throughout the day.

5. Stop thinking negatively. Somehow, I will get through my classes and eventually graduate. I shouldn’t need to complain over the smallest things and make a fuss about it. It is a waste of time. Instead, I should focus on ways to work around the problem and/or resolve the issue.

Dream Goals

Dream Goals

There are so many things I want to do in my life. Everyone has their own dreams and aspirations. Sometimes there can be occurrences when those hopes and dreams might seem merely impossible to accomplish. After trying so hard to get to a certain point, at times I find myself lost and surrendered. BUT, I have not given up entirely yet on my goals. I always pick myself up and try to get through the hardship and challenges because I know that it will all pay off in the end.

Firstly, I want to be a doctor (neonatologist to be exact). If I cannot handle the pressures and schooling, I still want to work in the medical field, just not as a doctor. I do not know what position I want to take, but nonetheless, I want to help patients in any way I can.

Secondly, I want a family (not now, but in the future). Just by knowing I want to be a neonatologist, you can tell that I love kids. My kids will live a happier life and I want them to enjoy all the things I could not enjoy as a kid myself (like living on campus, going to summer camps, sleepovers, etc).

Third, I want to build, open, and run a elementary school in Vietnam for underprivileged children and adults (who never got a proper education). As a Vietnamese, I know a lot of things about these people; they live at the poverty level and all the money they make goes to educating their children. In this country, education is more/less the most important aspect that the people praise. I know of a couple of families who are going through this and I wish I could do something for them now, but I can’t do enough to make a difference.

Fourth, I want to travel the world. Many people travel in the typical tourist-like fashion and enjoy themselves in luxury. For me, I want to travel to the places that do not get much attention, especially health-wise. If I can, I want to help treat or diagnose people who have illnesses and do not have the means to healthcare. Besides that, I want to meet the real people of the places I visit, free from all the modern, touristy places. From there, I get to understand the culture and lifestyle so much better.

Fifth, I want to find lifelong friends. I want to find those that enjoy everything about me and vise versa. It is simply amazing when you and others can talk for hours and hours about any topic at all and still have fun.

I know that I’m a picky person and I know there is a lot of “I” and “wants” in this blog post, but generally speaking, the things I would like to have is not so materialistic or centered strictly to me. Rather, my life revolves around others with their well-being, their health, and emotions.

Here’s a quick video that shows a good picture of what I mean (there are English subtitles):

Goals to Work on for the New Year

Goals to Work on for the New Year

new-year-s-resolution

As the new year rings in, everyone including myself tries to improve themselves by coming up with resolutions. Most of the time, words are only words; words do not speak for actions. Although this may be the case, I promise to stand by what I say and try hard to successfully accomplish the goals I plan to work on for the new year.

  • Prioritize. I have finished one semester of college and therefore I have a good idea of how essential it is to prioritize myself. Everyday, I need to have an agenda of what I am supposed to do, organized by time. From there, I can visually see what things I need to do, where I need to be, how much free time I have, and more.
  • Be Respectful & Be Open-minded. Everyone comes from a different background. They have different personalities, views, and preferences. Especially in a college setting, the student body is more diverse than that of high school or grade school (generally speaking). Showing respect and open-mindedness to everyone allows me to develop more good friendships with others and show them what kind of person I am.
  • Push Myself to be the Best. School is important. I must continue to give each class my best effort and do not let other things distract me from being the best student that I can be. There is always room for improvement.
  • Socialize. Looking back to last semester, I had avoided many social gatherings with friends because I am (and have always been) shy and quiet. I would make up excuses to pardon my absence like having to study, having to be home for personal business, and more. Although some of the times, it was true that I was busy and could not hang out with my friends. Nonetheless, I must prioritize my time wisely and make time to socialize with others to relax and be happy.
