Managing Stress

Managing Stress

At times, college as a whole can be overwhelming, especially when you first begin. From dorm life to school work, people can have a considerable amount of anxiety and stress. College ultimately puts you under the pressure so that you are ready tackle the bigger challenges and difficultly that will come up in the future. How do we manage our stress though? How do we reassure ourselves that everything, will in fact, be okay?

For dorm life, stress can come from being homesick, tolerating the disturbances that happen within the same floor, and encountering people that may not be the best people to be around. Simple things like studying elsewhere, staying in your friend’s room, calling up your family and friends, and spending the night with your friends to go downtown and/or see a movie are great ways to alleviate the stress and worrying. Doing things like this helps you become more comfortable with yourself which makes everything you do much more easier.

It is quite visible to understand why academics can lead to stress- quizzes, exams, projects, presentations, labs/reports, and performances. Many of these things require most or even all the time and effort you have. To reduce the worries and anxiety of school work, you must know how to organize you week and break it up into the times you should study, take a break, eat, catch up with friends, and other things. In addition, surround yourself with your peers that want to do well in class, seek more assistance by visiting the tutoring center and your professor, and find effective places that are suitable for you to study.
