Loyola Coalition for the Homeless
The Loyola Coalition for the Homeless is a group of students that works with the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless on education advocacy with and for the homeless on local organizing campaigns. Contact loyoalcoalitionforthehomeless@gmail.com for more information.
Oxfam
Oxfam Loyola is the student chapter of Oxfam America which is part of an international humanitarian organization. We have the goals of “providing lasting solutions to poverty and injustice around the world.” Here at Loyola we look at and address issues such as the textile ordering policy for the university (i.e. ensuring a living wage is paid for every shirt bought), getting fair trade products on campus, and investigating the effects of globalization and free trade agreements. Contact oxfamluc@gmail.com for more information.
Habitat for Humanity
Affiliated with the university’s Ministry department, Habitat for Humanity LUC works to educate the masses about the housing crisis and homelessness. Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization where volunteers come together to build homes for low-income families. Contact habitatluc@gmail.com for more information.
LIFT
LIFT’s mission is to combat poverty and expand opportunity for all people in the United States. We envision a day when all people in our country will have the opportunity to achieve economic security and pursue their aspirations. LIFT clients and volunteers work one-on-one to find jobs, secure safe and stable housing, make ends meet through public benefits and tax credits, and obtain quality referrals for services like childcare and healthcare. Simultaneously, the LIFT experience pushes volunteers to grapple with our country’s most challenging issues related to poverty, race, inequality, and policy. Contact chicago@liftcommunities.org for more information.
