Students document historic churches
Spring Semester Jameson Chen’s Photojournalism class and my Journalism Capstone class teamed up to document in words and photos some of the many historic Catholic churches in Chicago.
Some of these churches are more than 150 years old, and are impressive in their architecture and appearance.
Some have fallen on hard times, requiring millions to repair. The evolution of these churches mirror changes in society, changes in Chicago’s neighborhoods, and changes taking place in the Catholic Church.
Our student journalists comb the neighborhoods of Chicago to write stories about some of these churches, and take photographs.
