Loyola SCPS representatives attend event to honor Sheriff Thomas Dart

Loyola CJ

On Thursday January 21, Loyola SCPS Dean Walter Pearson, accompanied by Associate Dean Jeanne Widen, attended an event hosted by City Club Chicago to honor Loyola alumnus Sheriff Thomas (Tom) Dart.

As Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart has brought an aggressive, yet innovative approach to law enforcement. A former prosecutor and state legislator, Sheriff Dart has long fought for the rights of others and protecting the most vulnerable members of our society.

Also present were Loyola Criminal Justice Advisory Committee members:

  • Special Agent-in-Charge of the U.S. Department of Justice John Oleskowicz
  • Chief of Police of City of Evanston Richard Eddington
  • Chicago Police Department (Retired) Ed Grabarek
  • Loyola Faculty Member Robert Lombardo
  • Coordinator of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Programs and Studies at Joliet Junior College Kim Karlberg
  • Former Executive Vice President of the Chicago Crime Commission Art Bilek

Among other things, the Sheriff spoke about the need to increase awareness in the criminal justice system, and to reduce unjust incarceration. In short, to seek justice and act with compassion.

Loyola is proud of its involvement with this event, and looks forward to enriching our criminal justice degree offerings.
