Excellence in Adult Learning Award 2015

At the Annual Faculty Meeting held in the first week of January, School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) Dean Walter Pearson and Jean Ryan, Director, Institute for Paralegal Studies presented the Excellence in Adult Learning Award to four outstanding faculty members – Amy Jordan, Natasha Teetsov, Char Wenc and Elizabeth Novy.  The winners were selected from a total of 30 nominees, chosen by students for their exemplification of Ignatian values and unmatched teaching standards.

Here is a little bit about the well-deserving winners!

AMY JORDAN

AmyJordanAmy Jordan, PhD, is the Assistant Professor and the Director of Special Projects at SCPS. Amy teaches a variety of undergraduate courses in SCPS degree programs, including the adult student orientation course. She also assists in the development of the prior learning assessment system, as well as teaching the capstone course.

To quote from her students “Professor Amy Jordan has a spirit of support for any student that she has in her circle.  She has displayed very high enthusiasm and a sincere desire to motivate students to become the best version of themselves here at Loyola and in their respective lives.  These are qualities that serve as a beacon of hope for students in the SCPS program”

 

NATASHA TEETSOV

Excellence in Learning AwardWhile she has been Loyola since 2013, Natasha joined the SCPS family in 2015. Natasha is one of the instructors for the Introduction to Degree Completion course.  She also serves as Assistant Dean for SCPS, with a primary focus on academic advising and supporting students in the areas of admission, scholarships, graduation, and special events.

Says her students “Natasha is interested in students not only getting an education but a life experience. She ask questions to see what you truly want to do with your education and your life. She wholeheartedly devotes herself to the success of the student. It was a pleasure to have her as an instructor”

 

 

CHAR WENC

Excellence in Learning AwardChar Wenc is a professional speaker, coach, and author of two books.  She teaches Interpersonal Communication at Loyola and is president of Char Wenc Communication, a firm that specializes in building positive, productive relationships at work, school, and families.

Her students say “Every class Char created a space for us to learn and grow together as a group.  She led us to form a community in the classroom where we could discuss ideas, work through conflicts, and succeed together.  Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious and the learning exercises we did were creative and made a lasting impression.  She is such a valuable educator who deserves any accolade for which she is being considered.  She truly embodies Excellence in Adult Learning”

 

ELIZABETH NOVY

Excellence in Learning AwardElizabeth Novy has been an Assistant State Attorney in Cook County for the past ten years.  She is currently assigned to the Criminal Division of the State Attorney’s Office. She has been with the Loyola family since 2010 and teaches Legal Research & Writing I and II for the Institute of Paralegal Studies.

Her students quote “Prof. Novy has a thoughtful and clear manner of instruction. She uses her real-world knowledge with a bit of humor to motivate her students and prepare them for the real world. Her organization and detailed insight have helped to prepare us for the next step in our career.”
