However, before getting too ahead of ourselves don’t forget about checking out of your halls! Your Residence Hall staff will be providing you with information on properly checking out.
Here’s some additional information:

All residents are expected to vacate the residence halls 24 hours after their last final or by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 8 – whichever comes first.

Residents who are graduating, or working at any of the graduation activities, an athlete in post season competition, in the Graduate School of Business, or Law school are permitted to stay in their rooms until Sunday, May 12 at 12:00 noon. Law School Students may stay until Thursday, May 16 at 12:00 noon. Check out our website www.luc.edu/reslife for extended stay registration information.

Residents who will be living on campus during the summer should remain in their current rooms while their summer units are prepared for check in. You will be permitted to move into their summer assignments as soon as their rooms are ready. Because you will be asked to move as soon as your new room is ready, if you wish you leave your belongings during the interim, you will need to be on campus as well. If you plan to leave for the break, you will need to find a place to store your belongings. Additional information will be sent about your process for checking out of your current space and into your new space.

All of the information in regards to end of year check out can be found at www.luc.edu/reslife or feel free to stop by the Residence Life Central Office in Simpson 107. Good luck on finals the year is almost over!

Looking for a place to live over the summer? Worried about finding someone to sublet their apartment to you? Put all that stress behind and submit a Summer Housing Contract today!

Summer housing will be provided on both the Lake Shore Campus in Bellarmine Hall and the Water Tower Campus in Baumhart Hall. This is a great opportunity for students to experience all Chicago has to offer in the exciting summer months!

Keep in mind that students must be enrolled in summer courses in order to live on campus. On the Lake Shore Campus, students must be enrolled in at least one class per session that they wish to live on campus. For example, students taking classes only during Summer Session B will only be permitted to live on campus during Summer Session B.

However, on the Water Tower Campus, students are only required to take one summer course in order to live in Baumhart. The Summer Housing Contract for Baumhart specifies the student is required to live on campus for the entire summer, not just the sessions in which the student is enrolled.

Students have the option to either live on campus during the break before the first summer session or completely move out of their current housing assignment and move into their summer assignment when the session starts. Students will have the same options to choose from for the transition period between the last summer session and the 2013 fall semester. For more information regarding the Summer Housing Transition, please refer to http://www.luc.edu/reslife/currentstudents/summerhousing/.

If you have any questions regarding Summer Housing, drop by our office in Simpson 107!

Go Ramblers!

There are a variety of student employment options around campus and many of those are within the Department of Residence Life. One position available to students through the department is the Student Office Assistant position (SOA). The Student Office Assistant position entails communicating via telephone on behalf of the department, addressing concerns through emails, and providing assistance to students, staff, and family members that enter the office. The position provides students with a hands-on role in the services provided to an assortment of people and experience with multiple software programs & information systems.

A Student Office Assistant may be asked questions ranging from housing assignments to meal plans to roommate concerns. Through answering the phone, emails, and questions in person, an SOA is a resource that provides accurate, immediate assistance to those with questions.

Additionally, SOA’s interact with staff members throughout the department and aid in tasks that the members participate in. For instance, SOA’s are able to aid in the process of Resident Assistant selection. By helping with this process, SOA’s learn more about the way the department works and play an integral role in the future of the department.

The SOA position allows students to take an active role within a major department in campus, while also improving customer service and other interpersonal skills needed for everyday office work. The position gives students an opportunity to learn phone etiquette, formal ways to address emails, and how to address concerns appropriately.

However, the best part of all is the staff that an SOA gets the opportunity to work with. The Department of Residence Life consists of a fantastic collection of staff members. Being an SOA comes with many responsibilities, but it also allows students to form invaluable relationships with the full-time department staff. Personally, I have met some of the best Loyola employees on campus through the department, and I have made friends with my fellow student employees. The atmosphere of the office is one that makes you want to come to work. It is a great way to learn about Loyola University Chicago, while also learning how to behave within a professional setting.

Best,

Can I still apply for housing on campus for the spring semester?

Yes. Although the priority deadline has passed, students can still sign up for on campus housing for the spring semester. The Housing form can be found through the student’s Locus account.
Some tips we found successful for students completing the form include using Internet Explorer and deleting browsing history before starting the process.

What are the components of the housing application?

Students need to complete the housing application form found on Locus under Residence Life, as well as submit the housing pre-payment. The pre-payment is non refundable and is also found under the Residence Life tab on Locus. The pre-payment can be paid with debit or credit, with Visa, Mastercard and Discover being accepted. If you have difficulty paying the pre-payment please contact the department of Residence Life to see if you qualify for the pre-payment waiver.
Note: New students don’t need to pay the pre-payment; the admissions deposit is all that’s required.

Are there single rooms still available?

Our single rooms are reserved for students with medical needs. If this applies to you please contact Services for Students with Disabilities (SSWD) and once we receive a recommendation from their department we will work with you from there.

Where can I find the Housing Release and Exemption Form?

www.luc.edu/erelease

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us @ Res-life@luc.edu !

Best,

Carl Durrenmatt,

Department of Residence Life

About a week ago, I got to tour Messina Hall, which is a new Residence hall located on Winthrop ave, across the street from Fairfield hall and next door to Spring Hill Hall. Messina Hall has many new features that are unique to it, including a state of the art kitchen fit for the next Iron Chef!

Check out the pictures of the rooms in progress!
