Hosts Fifth Annual Climate Change Conference
Former U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy
to Deliver Keynote Address

WHAT:
This March, Loyola University Chicago’s fifth annual Climate Change Conference will reflect upon Gina McCarthy’s statement that climate change is a key driver for public health concerns. The conference, Climate Change and Human Health: 21st Century Challenges, will feature scholarly discussions from academics, climate change experts, physicians, and public health advocates surrounding current environmental issues. Panelists will discuss major climate change topics, such as catastrophic weather events, the U.S. federal government’s lack of commitment to the Paris Agreement, and the increasing prevalence of climate refugees.

The Institute of Environmental Sustainability, along with the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership, will host the event. Conference sponsors include the Baum Family Foundation, Baxter, the Consulate General of Canada in Chicago, Iroquois Valley Farms, THIMUS, the Loyola Phoenix, the Archdiocese of Chicago, Loyola’s Fellowship Office, and the THEA Institute at Loyola University Chicago.

WHO:
Gina McCarthy, senior leadership fellow at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and former U.S. EPA Administrator under President Barack Obama, will deliver the keynote address on Thursday, March 15, at 7 p.m. in Mundelein Auditorium on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus in Roger’s Park. Prior to the speech, conference goers will be treated to a choir and dance performance inspired by the issues surrounding climate change from Loyola’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
