New School of Education Dean

Terri Pigott, PhD, Leading the Nationally Ranked School
After 17 Years of Service

CHICAGO, October 21, 2015 – Loyola University Chicago announces the appointment of Terri Pigott, PhD, as dean of the nationally ranked School of Education. Pigott joined the school as a faculty member in research methodology in fall 1998, assumed the role of associate dean of faculty in January 2013, and was named interim dean last November. Equipped with 25 years of experience in higher education, Pigott officially became dean on October 1.

“I have seen Dr. Pigott’s commitment to the School of Education and her focus on teacher preparation firsthand, and I am confident we picked the right leader for the school at a very important time,” said Interim Provost Samuel A. Attoh, PhD. “As statistics continue to show the need for more educators at both the local and national level, I know that Dr. Pigott will continue to move the school forward, remaining true to its focus on students’ academic, spiritual, and social formation.”

Pigott serves on the editorial boards of Psychological Methods, Psychological Bulletin, and Elementary School Journal. She is also the methods editor for the Campbell Collaboration, an international organization that supports the production and dissemination of systematic reviews on social interventions. Her research interests center on meta-analysis, a statistical technique for synthesizing research across studies.

Additionally, she serves on Chicago Public Schools’ High School Working Group, which is developing a model-agnostic plan for a quality high school within three miles of every home in the city, as well as a number of state-level committees concerned with education. Her University service includes work on the recent Higher Learning Commission University Accreditation Committee, chair responsibilities on the Faculty Appeals Committee, resource membership on the Academic Affairs Committee of the University’s Board of Trustees, and a vice chair role on the Institutional Review Board for Research with Human Subjects (2006–10).

Pigott received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD in Education from the University of Chicago, specializing in measurement, evaluation and statistical analysis. She started her academic career at National-Louis University in 1990, and then served as associate program officer at the Spencer Foundation in Chicago, an organization that grants funds to support research in education, from 1996–1998.
