Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi to Speak and Receive Honorary Doctoral Degree at Loyola University Chicago
Event Will Coincide with Colloquium on the History and Diversity of Latino/a Theology
Loyola University Chicago will host Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi for a lecture on “American Culture, Catholic Higher Education, and their Contributions to the Global Church.” Visiting from the Vatican, Cardinal Ravasi will also receive an honorary doctoral degree from the University. The installation of Miguel H. Díaz, PhD, as Loyola’s John Courtney Murray Chair in Public Service will occur during the event as well.
Cardinal Ravasi’s visit will coincide with a colloquium titled “The Preferential Option for Culture in Latino/a Theology.” It will include faith-filled, critical conversations about the history and diversity of Latino/a theology and its origins, development, and future. Joining Cardinal Ravasi for the colloquium will be a number of leading Latino/a theologians including:

- Orlando O. Espín, ThD, University of San Diego
- Jean-Pierre Ruiz, St. John’s University
- Maria Teresa Dávila, PhD, Andover Newton Theological School
- Neomi De Anda, PhD, University of Dayton

- Carmen Nanko-Fernández, DMin, Catholic Theological Union

Cardinal Ravasi is the president of the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archeology. Cardinal Ravasi is widely recognized as one of the leading intellectuals of the Roman Curia.
