Loyola University Chicago’s Institute of Environmental Sustainability Hosts Annual Climate Change Conference
Conference Gathers Scholars and Sustainability Advocates to Examine Environmental Action
What:
Loyola University Chicago’s Institute of Environmental Sustainability is co-hosting its second annual conference on climate change with the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU). The conference, “To Tend the Earth: Responding to the Global Climate Change Crisis,” will gather academics, researchers, and sustainability advocates to examine principles, policies, and actions needed to combat global climate change, particularly in the context of social justice.
George Crabtree, PhD, director of Argonne National Lab’s Joint Center for Energy Storage Research, will deliver the keynote address on “Addressing Climate Change with Next Generation Energy Storage Technology.”
Panels and workshops will include interdisciplinary dialogue focused on a variety of topics, including environmental policy; the role of wonder in the era of climate change; and the human motivations behind climate action and inaction. Panelists include:
- Robyn Gabel, Illinois State Representative District 18, will discuss clean energy initiatives in Illinois.
- Mary Evelyn Tucker, PhD, senior lecturer and research scholar, Yale University, will discuss how the visions of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and Thomas Berry shaped her multimedia project Journey of the Universe and inspire people to work for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation.
- Elke U. Weber, PhD, Jerome A. Chazen Professor of International Business and professor, management and psychology, Columbia University. Dr. Weber’s research focuses on judgment and decision-making under uncertainty, specifically in financial and environmental contexts.
