MEDIA ALERT

Loyola Partners with City of Chicago and Cook County to
Promote Healthy Homes and Communities
Summit will establish blueprint to address indoor environmental toxins harmful to children

What:
Loyola University Chicago has collaborated with the City of Chicago, Cook County Department of Public Health, and Great Lakes Centers at the University of Illinois at Chicago to host a multidisciplinary summit titled, “Advancing Healthy Homes & Healthy Communities.”

Approximately 1.2 million children residing in Cook County are at risk of developing immediate and long-term health effects due to numerous indoor environmental hazards. This invitational summit will include representatives of community-based organizations; health, housing, and child advocates;  public health and housing officials; representatives from realtor and insurance industries; a multidisciplinary group of faculty from Loyola and the University of Illinois at Chicago; and legal advocates. The purpose for the summit is to raise awareness about the burdens of unhealthy housing and begin the work of developing a blueprint for the city and county to address indoor environmental toxins, especially as they relate to children.

The summit’s morning session is free and open to the public. For more information, visit LUC.edu/chrc. To RSVP, email HealthyHomes@LUC.edu.
