MEDIA ALERT

Loyola University Chicago to Host Lecture on Chicago’s Gun Violence Epidemic

What:
Loyola University Chicago is hosting Loyola alumnus and current Yale University professor Andrew Papachristos for “Connected in Crime: Using Network Analysis to Understand Chicago’s Violence Epidemic.”

Papachristos will explore the growing field of network science and explain how it is an asset in fighting Chicago’s gun violence epidemic. Papachristos’s presentation will use data on fatal and non-fatal gunshot injuries in Chicago to describe the severe concentration of violence within small social networks, and how one’s position in such networks relates to the probability of being a crime victim. The implications of such networked insights for policy, prevention, and enforcement efforts will also be discussed.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Teresa Neumann at tneumann1@luc.edu or visit LUC.edu/curl.
