MEDIA ALERT
Pulitzer Journalist Bob Marshall to Speak at Loyola University Chicago about Journalism, Environmental Disasters, and Suffering
What:
New Orleans journalist Bob Marshall, known for his Pulitzer Prize winning pieces on Louisiana’s declining fisheries and wetlands, comes to Loyola University Chicago for a two-day event that is part of Loyola’s “Theology and Ecology” series.
Day one includes a screening of Veins in the Gulf, a documentary directed by professors Elizabeth Coffman and Ted Hardin, followed by a discussion with Marshall and the directors. The film follows a group of individuals in southern Louisiana trying to save their homes from hurricanes, oil spills, and sea level rise. Marshall will provide updates on groundbreaking legal activity surrounding the suing of more than 100 oil and gas companies for historic damage to the wetlands.
Day two features a panel titled “Covering Earth, Uncovering Agony: Journalism, Environmental Disasters, and Suffering.” Marshall, along with Loyola faculty, will discuss the spiritual and psychological issues that are unique to telling environmental disaster stories.
Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, click here.
