Loyola University Chicago to Co-Host 25th National Catholic China Conference
In an effort to promote mutual interests among the diverse and growing groups of American-Catholics, Loyola University Chicago and the US Catholic China Bureau will host the 25th National Catholic China Conference on October 4–6, 2013.
Founded in 1989, the US Catholic China Bureau represents Catholic organizations, religious orders, academics, and individuals that work to promote understanding among American- Catholics about the Catholic Church in China. The conference’s theme is “The American Catholic Church and China in an Era of Globalization” and it will feature keynote presentations from Professor Richard Madsen of the University of California, San Diego and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist Ian Johnson. In addition to the keynote presentations, the conference will feature a number of sessions and panels, one of which will feature Loyola sociology professor Michael Agliardo, S.J., moderating a discussion on the sociology of religion in China.
