LEED Silver Designed Space Unveiled with Grand Opening Celebration
The Arnold J. Damen, S.J. Student Center, named after Loyola University Chicago’s founder, officially opens Wednesday on the Lake Shore Campus. The 100,000-plus square foot structure, designed to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver-certified, provides students with a dedicated space to build community and encourages co-curricular engagement on campus.
A grand opening celebration will run all day Wednesday and feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, building blessing, a short film contest, building tours, international campus iPad tours, free food, rock climbing demonstrations, a “Wine Down” reception for faculty and staff, a “Senior Hop,” and more.
The opening of the Damen Student Center completes phase three of the University’s reimagine campaign to transform student life on campus and the building is now home to several key student groups, including the Department of Programming and the Unified Student Government Association; several faith-based groups; numerous dining options; Ireland’s Sports Lounge; the “L” Stop Spirit Shop; a rock wall; a 125-seat cinema; and plenty of group and meeting space.
