All-Star Alderwomen to be Honored at Loyola University Chicago
Four Retiring Alderwomen Headline Annual Ann F. Baum Speaker Series
What:
Women across the globe accomplish great things every day, but in March we give special recognition to their many wonderful accomplishments. And, during the Ann F. Baum Women and Leadership Speaker Series on March 24 in Loyola University Chicago’s Mundelein Center Auditorium, four spectacular alderwomen will be honored for their many years of public service.
The special subtitle for this year’s series, All Politics is Local, Public Service for the Common Good, was chosen specifically because of the amazing coincidence that these four alderwomen were retiring from Chicago’s City Council all in the same year. The four alderwomen who will discuss their experiences on the Council and with the Daley administration are:
-Vi Daley-Lincoln Park, 43rd Ward
-Virginia Ginger Rugai-Beverly, 19th Ward
-Helen Shiller-Uptown, 46th Ward
-Mary Ann Smith-Edgewater, 48th Ward
During their discussions, each alderwoman will touch on their most memorable vote on a city issue, actions that they regret, and any advice they have for the new mayor and their successors. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A to be moderated by Beth Konrad, a Loyola journalism professor and immediate past president of the Chicago Headline Club-Chicago Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
