Campus-Wide, Interfaith Fast at Loyola
Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, and Christian Gather for Peace
In a truly unique demonstration of unity in a world filled with religious and political tensions, the Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, and Christian communities at Loyola University Chicago will gather to discuss and deliberate on global issues while also sharing in their different religious observances.
Loyola’s diverse group of student religious organizations will come together for “Building the Peace, Breaking the Fast,” a campus-wide fast for peace with a shared break-the-fast meal featuring kosher, halal, and vegetarian food.
Hillel, the Muslim Students’ Association (MSA), and the Hindu Students Organization (HSO) are sponsoring this event to encourage participants to reflect on issues concerning our global community as the Jewish and Muslim communities share a fast on Monday-the Fast of Gedalya and the beginning of the month-long Fast of Ramadan, respectively-while the Hindu community fasted on Sunday.
Students from various religious organizations, including Hillel, the Muslim Students’ Association, and the Hindu Students Organization, as well as co-sponsors Loyola Anti-War Network, Loyola Students Against Sweatshops, and the Turkish Intercultural Club.
