CHICAGO, Nov. 28, 2005 The Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center and co-host, Harris, will honor the 2005 Illinois Family Business of the Year winners at a dinner and awards presentation on Thursday, December 8th from 6-9 p.m. The awards gala, held annually for the past 12 years, recognizes Illinois-based family businesses that demonstrate a strong commitment to both business and family. The event will be held at The Four Seasons Hotel, located at 120 E. Delaware Place, and will feature keynote speaker, Lansing Crane, chairman and CEO of Crane & Co., Inc.

Winners of the 2005 Illinois Family Business of the Year Awards include: Widmer Interiors of Peoria (Small Category), Peter Troost Monument Company of Hillside (Medium Category), Raynor Garage Doors of Dixon (Large Category), Glunz Family Enterprises (Century Award) andSkender Construction Company of Palos Hills (Community Service Award).

The Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center created the Family Business of the Year Awards in 1994 to recognize significant and positive contributions made by Illinois-based family businesses. Since its inception in 1990, the Center has remained committed to the task of recognizing the outstanding accomplishments and contributions of family businesses to our local and national society and economy. As an internationally-recognized pioneer and leader in family business development and research, the Center developed the Family Business of the Year Awards program as a way to make the accomplishments of family businesses in the State of Illinois known to the public and to other family businesses.

This year’s competition received more than 400 nominations for the following three categories: Small: less than 50 employees; Medium: 50-250 employees and Large: more than 250 employees. Winners were selected based on a variety of criteria, including business success, positive family/business linkage, multi-generational family business involvement, contributions to industry and community and innovative practices and strategies.

“It’s truly an honor to recognize these well-deserving organizations through our Family Business of the Year Awards,” said Andrew Keyt, executive director, Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center. “These family enterprises are so important to our economy and society, and it’s my sincere hope that other family-owned businesses will take notice and follow in their footsteps.”

“We are proud to be a part of this worth-while event celebrating and recognizing these organizations,” said Jonathan Rohde, senior vice president, Small Business Banking for Harris. “For nearly 120 years, Harris has served the small business market. In fact, we started out as a family-owned business, so we’re always delighted to support and recognize other family businesses.”
