Amie B: The Blue Line Lounge and Grill

One of my favorite activates lately has been hitting up the Blue Line Lounge and Grill in Bucktown on Wednesday nights because they have $5 specialty martinis! Options range from the classic Cosmo to creamy Red Velvet Cake. I really like the ones that are served with fresh fruit in them like the Orchard Strawberry.

Going out on Wednesdays is great because they are like our Thursday nights. Since we don’t have class on Fridays, Wednesdays means its only one day to the weekend and all my work is usually done by then. Normally, I go with my gals from law school because my working friends don’t always feel like the week is almost over by Wednesdays. That’s ok though because they don’t spend all day Sunday in the library any more.

The lounge is designed to feel as though we are entering a train car from the 50s. Since it is located directly under the Blue Line stop Damen, the L racing overhead provides the vibrations and sounds to make it feel real. The leather booths, stainless steal bar backdrop, diner style stools that sit up to a marble topped bar complete the atmosphere. Movies like Catch Me If You Can and the Great Gatsby play on the TVs contributing to the vibe (or maybe providing an homage to Leonardo DiCaprio, either way I am not complaining). In fact it embodies the 50s lifestyle so much so that every Sunday they broadcast Mad Men and serve $6 drink specials that are found on the show.Screen Shot 2014-04-17 at 12.34.52 PM

As my loyal readers will know, this girl is on a budget; so the $5 suits me great! I love to find deals that allow me to have fun without breaking the bank. (For example I found a local restaurant whose entire food menu is HALF off every Tuesday night! My friend and I split a giant bowl of mussels for $3 each.) The Blue Line Lounge is a great place to kick back, relax and share a drink with friends for a really great price
