New Student Center Goes Vertical!!

01.23.12

What a difference a day makes!!

After about a month of concrete work on the basement of the new Alumni Student Center on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus, Power Construction started to put up steel beams on Thursday, January 19th. The pictures below are from one day of work. The beams that you see are beams that make up what will be the basement of the student center. The beams going horizontal indicate where the first floor will start.

From here….some more beams will be laid, and work will begin on a section of the basement. Because of the cold, crews will be working underneath a tarp over the winter months. The section that they will be working on will be heated with portable heaters so that concrete work, etc. can still continue in the cold.

Come March, crews will emerge and work will start on another section of the building. The crews will put this building up section by section working their way out of the construction site (sort of like mopping a floor).

Enjoy these shots!!
