Are Free Apps Costing you Battery Power???

A study done at Purdue University has shown that free apps tend to consume more battery life. Using an app called eprof the students watched multiple apps to see which where draining the most battery power. The study was tested on one phone running an android OS and another phone running a windows mobile OS.The popular mobile game angry birds, was executed in both phones.

The study showed from all of the power used by the Angry Birds app (free version), only 18% of the power was actually needed for the game to run. A staggering 45% was consumed by Flurry, a company running the advertisement on most free apps. The study stated the consumption of so much power was due to the advertisement’s improper coding. So next time you want to download a free app you may consider the effect it will have on the battery life and maybe opt for the paid version.
