OIP names new director

Dear Cabinet and Council of Deans:

I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Engel, PhD, as the Director of the Office for International Programs (OIP), effective February 17, 2014. Dr. Engel comes to Loyola from the University of South Carolina where she has served since 2007 as the Director of Study Abroad and, since last summer, also served as the Executive Director of Global Learning. Previously she served as the Director of Study Abroad at Marygrove College, a Catholic liberal arts college in Michigan.

Dr. Engel brings extensive experience in international program development and management to OIP, as well as to the division of Academic Affairs, including strategic planning and effective collaborations with faculty and administrators at both Marygrove and USC. She earned her PhD in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina, an MA in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Alma College in Michigan. As a direct report to me, Dr. Engel will have responsibility for Loyola’s Study Abroad programs, services to visiting international students and scholars, recruitment and enrollment support for the John Felice Rome Center and The Beijing Center, and for the English Language Learning Program at Loyola. She will also play an integral role in planning for Loyola’s expansion and enhancement of its international programming. Dr. Engel will build upon the excellent work of her immediate predecessor, Dr. Rosemary Max, who accepted an appointment last semester as the Director of International Student Services and Activities at the University of Notre Dame.

I wish to thank the many faculty, staff, students and administrators who participated in this successful search for a new Director of Loyola’s Office for International Programs. Your commitment to Loyola and to international education is much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Patrick M. Boyle, PhD
Vice Provost, Academic Centers & Global Initiatives
