Campus Safety is writing to inform you of an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. today (December 13) at the Damen Student Center located at 6511 N. Sheridan Road.

Two Aramark employees were exiting the west door at the Damen Student Center shortly after 2:00 a.m. when they were stopped from behind by an individual with a black handgun. The two victims were instructed to go back inside the building and into a room where a safe was located. The victims were instructed to open the safe and after it was open, the offender removed the safe’s contents and fled the scene. One of the victims immediately contacted Campus Safety with a description of the offender. Campus Safety immediately conducted a search of the surrounding area and found the offender who was subsequently arrested and taken into custody by Campus Safety. The weapon used in the robbery was recovered and determined to be a replica. The proceeds from the robbery were also recovered.

  • When walking, always be alert and aware of your surroundings; keep your head up and don’t use a cellphone or other item that may distract you.
  • If a person threatens you with a weapon, follow their demands and run as it’s safe to do so; once you are in a safe place immediately notify the police, either 773.508.6039 for Campus safety or 9-1-1 if off campus.
