Executive director of corporate engagement appointed
I’m pleased to announce that Janet V. Deatherage, PhD, has accepted an appointment as Executive Director, Office of Corporate Engagement, effective November 1st. The establishment of an Office of Corporate Engagement is a new initiative intended to coordinate corporate partnerships across the University Lakeside campuses. As Executive Director, Dr. Deatherage will serve as the primary, initial point of contact for new or existing corporate partners, building comprehensive relationships between the University and corporations, small to medium businesses, and not-for-profit organizations. In reporting directly to me, she will also ensure coordination and cooperation across University Schools, departments, academic centers, and divisions as opportunities for mutually beneficial academic programming, experiential learning, and career opportunities are explored.
Dr. Deatherage most recently served at Loyola as the Senior Associate Dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and as Acting Dean of the School from May 2011 to August 2013. Dr. Deatherage built the online delivery for degree-completion programming, implemented the Prior Learning Assessment program for adult students, has been instrumental in forming a Student Veteran’s service program at Loyola, and served as Dean of Summer Sessions. She has service on the Council of Deans, the Board of Undergraduate Studies, the University Core Curriculum Committee, and the Academic Technology Committee. As Associate Dean, Deatherage founded the Loyola Women’s Leadership program, the only one of its kind in Chicago. Additionally, Dr. Deatherage managed the planning and creation of courses, certificates, workshops, and lectures under the banner of Continuum, Loyola’s non-credit program providing continuing education for the community.
In the July 2011 issue of Today’s Chicago Woman, Dr. Deatherage was featured as one of the “100 Women Making a Difference.” In cooperation with the US Chamber of Commerce and the Office of the Illinois Comptroller, Dr. Deatherage organized the Hiring Our Heroes Veteran’s Job Fair held at the Lakeshore campus in September 2012. The Fair was attended by over 900 Chicago-area veterans looking for employment.
Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Deatherage spent over 20 years as a sales and marketing executive in the international tourism and travel industry, serving with major high-end travel corporations, including Abercrombie & Kent, Inc. in Oak Brook, Illinois. Dr. Deatherage earned her PhD in Scottish History from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland and her BA in History from Loyola University Chicago.
