Loyola faculty and staff have a new hub on campus this year. They can relax in Sky Lounge, the new faculty and staff lounge located on the first floor of Mundelein Center, starting today, Monday, August 26.
The private lounge will be open Monday–Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will offer special daily luncheon service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Loyola employees can choose to eat a hot entrée buffet for $6.95 per person, dine from the Cool Offerings Express Station for $4.50, or sip from the list of beverages, which includes soft drinks, juice, beer, and wine. Faculty and staff can even reserve the space on 25Live for private parties and events after the lounge’s operating hours.
Rabia Khan Harvey, assistant to the vice president and chair of the Sky Lounge planning committee, says the lounge will be a place for Loyola employees to unwind.
“Faculty and staff deserve a space that is exclusively their own and they can do this comfortably in Sky Lounge,” says Harvey. “We do not permit any students to use or enter the space, so faculty and staff will be able to find a quiet space to read or grade papers, enjoy a meal of their own or one provided by Aramark, enjoy each other’s company as peers, and enjoy wine, beer, and cocktails right on campus in a private setting.”
A grand opening will be held on Wednesday (August 28) and feature the lounge’s first sponsored Community Hour from 4-6 p.m. This event is designed to promote community among faculty and staff at Loyola. Throughout the first four weeks of the semester there will be a total of eight Community Hours hosted by a Loyola department or division every Wednesday and Thursday. Those who attend will enjoy free appetizers, non-alcoholic drinks, wine, and beer courtesy of the sponsoring department or division.
If any faculty or staff are interested in having their own department or division sponsor a Community Hour during the academic year post-September 19, they may contact Brian Palazzolo, in Catering, at email@example.com to schedule a date.
