Crime Alert – attempted strong-armed robbery at 1226 W. Arthur

Loyola Community,

The Department of Campus Safety is writing to notify you about an attempted strong-armed robbery that occurred on Tuesday, July 16, around 6:15 p.m., at 1226 W. Arthur Avenue.

The victim, a Loyola alum, was walking westbound on Arthur Avenue texting on her cell phone when she observed two males walking towards her. As she continued to walk, one of the males grabbed her phone from her hand and ran westbound on Arthur Avenue. The victim immediately began chasing the two males and was able to retrieve her phone when the offender dropped it on the ground. The two males were last seen talking to the occupants of a tan suburban-type vehicle that was parked on Arthur and Magnolia.

Safety Tips:

  • When walking alone, always stay alert and tuned into your surroundings; keep your eyes up and off of your phone, iPod, etc.
  • Walk or jog in well-lit areas, and stay away from alleys
  • Please refrain from listening to headphones/earphones or talking on the phone while out alone, as this minimizes your ability to hear an approaching threat and it also advertises to a would-be thief that you may have a desirable item to steal
  • If you see something you believe to be suspicious, immediately contact Campus Safety at 773.508.6039 or the Chicago Police Department via 9-1-1
