Crime Alert – attempted armed robbery near 6200 block of N. Winthrop

Loyola Community,
On Saturday, April 20, at approximately 8 p.m., a Loyola student walking in the 6200 block of North Winthrop was approached by an unknown offender who displayed a closed knife and demanded money. The student was able to flee and contact Campus Safety, though the area was searched with negative results.

Campus Safety is working closely with local authorities on this investigation. If anyone has information on the incident, please call Campus Safety at 773.508.6039 or the Chicago Police Department via 9-1-1. We also urge you to review the safety tips listed below.

  • When walking alone off campus, always stay alert and tuned into your surroundings
  • Use 8-RIDE whenever possible
  • Please refrain from listening to headphones/earphones while out alone, as this minimizes your ability to hear an approaching threat and it also advertises to a would-be thief that you may have a desirable item to steal
  • If you see something you believe to be suspicious, immediately contact Campus Safety at 773.508.6039 or the Chicago Police Department via 9-1-1

Sincerely,

Robert Fine
Director, Campus Safety
