Network Registration Program for students

Loyola Students,

This year, Information Technology Services (ITS) is happy to launch “Remote Scan,” a site where students can pre-screen personally owned computers to verify that they meet the security requirements for access to Loyola’s network.

By scanning at home, prior to your arrival on campus (and installing any updates that the Remote Scan system identifies), you will bypass the lines at ResNet’s drop-in clinics and be ready to connect to Loyola’s network your first day on campus. Faculty and staff members can use Remote Scan as well.

All personally owned computers using the wired network and all computers (personal and Loyola-owned) using the wireless network will be required to re-register every 120 days (or after 14 days of inactivity). If your machine does not meet network security requirements, you will be provided with on-screen options for updating or patching your computer.

Windows OS must:

  • Make sure the operating system is up to date with all Microsoft patches and service packs
  • Install an anti-virus program with current definitions; we recommend the free anti-virus Microsoft Security Essentials, which is available here
  • Enable a host-based firewall

MAC OS must:

  • Make sure the operating system is current, with all updates installed
  • Install an anti-virus program with current definitions; we recommend the free iAntiVirus, which is available here
  • Enable a host-based firewall

To activate the Remote Scan from an off-campus location, click here. Upon completing the scan, correct any device failures and re-scan until you receive a notice that says “Your PC Meets Policy Requirements.”

If you have any questions, or experience any difficulty accessing the network, please contact the ITS help desk at 773.508.4ITS or LUC.edu/helpdesk.

Sincerely,

Information Technology Services
