Interactive: Live Theater Near Loyola

Residents of Edgewater and Roger’s Park have no need to travel far from their homes in order to appreciate live entertainment at night.

According to April Browning, Managing Director of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Loyola University Chicago,¬† “The roots of theater had always been more on the North Side.” The downtown Theater District¬† has only been around for about 10 years since Mayor Richard Daley created it during an initiative to boost tourism.

While most theaters depend on foot traffic to gain audience members, theater on the far north side, according to Browning, is unique. Theaters on the far north side, like Lifeline and Redtwist, depend more on loyal patrons who return time and again and have a personal connection with certain places.
